How can we support better stewardship of land through increased access to nature?

We’ve been learning about land management from multiple angles, from the purchase of land for conservation to funding grassroots networks developing more climate resilient seed systems.  As we have moved through this space and learned about further projects and areas of activity, one topic has caught our attention.  The pockets of community stewardship of our natural world has proven to be a valuable approach in driving impactful work in the restoration and rejuvenation of our land.  We have observed that local communities have not only the knowledge and understanding of the needs of the natural spaces on their doorsteps to help it thrive, but also the sense of ownership and dedication to see these areas restored in the best way for nature and communities to work in harmony.

Can decentralising this work and giving the autonomy to local individuals with a passion for conservation, be an effective route to protecting and opening up land for others to enjoy and explore?  We are looking to support initiatives which empowers local people to become stewards, working as community-led teams, and promote ways to encourage increased access to nature and instil a greater connection to our natural world for all generations.
