The Dixon Foundation is a UK-based charity that backs bold initiatives working to help people and our natural world flourish together.

We are curious, collaborative and driven by a deep sense of urgency to regenerate our planet. We work by setting challenges to some of the toughest issues faced within our thematic areas of interest, and fund impact-driven organisations that rise to our challenges with radical, scalable and sustainable solutions.

Our themes

Our challenges are designed to support the transition towards a sustainable land-use and ocean economy, and sit within the following themes. We have kept our themes broad to acknowledge the complex and interconnected systems and processes at play. Many of our challenges will fit within more than one of these themes, however they serve to guide us and the impact we are seeking to achieve.

OUR CHALLENGES

Furthering Environmental Education

We believe that climate change is the biggest challenge facing humanity today, and we must act with urgency to stop the devastating consequences it is having on communities and biodiversity globally.

Creating and delivering factual, compelling and accessible content about the implications and importance of climate change is key to getting everybody involved in caring for our environment as quickly as possible, and driving forward action that creates a healthier planet for us to live on.

Restoring Nature

It’s time we put nature first. We support projects helping to repair and care for fragile ecosystems, promote responsible land management practices and improve our food and water quality.

We also purchase land for our expert partner, Oxygen Conservation, to deliver conservation and regenerative agriculture programmes that support sustainable development, local communities and green revenue generation. In doing so, we will increase biodiversity, replenish soils, sequester carbon and improve access to the resources needed to build healthier, diverse and resilient habitats and communities.

Scaling Sustainability

To future-proof our world, we need to rethink how we design, make, and use the things we need in a way that helps our environment, economy and society flourish simultaneously, without compromise.

We need to see rapid transformations in areas such as energy, transport, waste, fashion, food and much more! We place circular economy values at the heart of our strategy and hope that you do too.

Promoting activity in nature

Engaging with our natural world is the perfect place for community to spring from. It helps people feel connected to one another and builds resilience which is key to creating positive and sustainable change. That’s why we want people to spend more time outdoors!

Activity in nature not only helps people bond with our natural world, but can also improve physical and mental health, tackle inequalities and make our communities a more welcoming place to be.
